The Harbor Point Charitable Foundation continues to fund organizations offering programs that carry out the mission of the Foundation. The following organizations are excellent examples:

To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation (formerly Marin Breast Cancer Council) is a nonprofit organization whose members are breast cancer survivors, friends and supporters. Formed out of a desire to increase awareness of the huge epidemic that breast cancer had become, to raise funds for those living with  breast cancer and to offer a healing opportunity through the Stepping Out fashion show, which is a unique way of supporting women (and later men, as well) living with breast cancer. Since their inception in 1996 this all volunteer organization has raised and distributed nearly one million dollars for local San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit organizations that help people who are dealing with breast cancer or who have breast health concerns.

To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation's mission is to reach out to enrich the lives of women and men living with breast cancer by:
  • Providing grants for support programs, early detection screening, emotional and educational services
  • Securing resources for Bay Area organizations, including those supporting underserved communities
  • Offering healing opportunities through our events for those living with breast cancer

Us-Too Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, California Prostate Cancer Coalition and the American Cancer Society -

USA Tennis Special Populations (Northern California USTA) – Special Olympics Northern California - The USA Tennis Special Populations' mission is to promote and develop adaptive recreational tennis programs for those individuals with differing abilities. Through the Northern California Special Olympics, other USTA sections and staff, local and community programs, and the USTA National Office in White Plains, NY, Special Populations of USA Tennis hopes to carry out its mission. Special Populations recognizes four main categories of disabilities:

  • Developmentally disabled (learning disabilities, autism, Down's Syndrome, mental retardation)
  • Physically disabled (birth defects, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, muscular dystrophy, hearing impaired, stroke, etc.)
  • Consumers of mental health services (psychiatrically disabled, emotionally disturbed)
  • At risk/environmentally disabled (substance abusers, mentally and physically abused, homeless, HIV positive individuals, persons within the juvenile justice system, etc.)

For each of these groups, USA Tennis Special Populations supports adaptive tennis programs, providing grant money, equipment and resources for specifically-tailored programs that provide fun, fitness and a positive social experience for participants. Special clinics and instructional programs are held throughout the Bay Area, often in conjunction with agencies devoted to serving special populations within the respective communities. The enjoyment, physical well-being and contact shared by participants has proven to be positive sources of self-esteem, helping open doors to a more positive lifestyle.

Youth Tennis Advantage (YTA) honors Arthur Ashe’s vision of using tennis as a vehicle to profoundly enrich the lives of inner-city children who face various challenges and abuses related to poverty. Founded on the nationally recognized NJTL model, YTA helps children build character, self-esteem, discipline and community value through tennis instruction, academic support and college pathway.

Youth Tennis Advantage is committed to providing outcome-driven academic and tennis programs at 11 underserved, low-income community sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. YTA after school programs provide key elements to increasing the number of underserved and low-income children who 1) graduate from high school; 2) attend college; and 3) learn to be effective navigators of the world by experiencing and competing in a challenging learning environment with high and fair expectations.

Tennis is a proven beacon for children in underserved and low-income communities. For this reason, YTA has created safe, community-oriented, and motivational environments that instill productive behavior and support learning.

With the increasing popularity and visibility of professional tennis, the time is right for YTA and the tennis community to focus on the development of the game at the grass root levels and bringing tennis along with its lifelong lessons and benefits as envisioned by Arthur Ashe to children.

Northern Light School - The goal of the Northern Light School is to provide a high quality-learning environment that takes into consideration the academic, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of children who would not otherwise have the opportunity for a private education. Opened on September 11, 1989, the program philosophy encourages children from all walks of life to come together to learn, play, share and challenge each other to become the best they can be. The overarching principle of Northern Light School is to develop an educational environment that includes children from traditional as well as alternative families, children from all socio-economics levels, children from various cultures, and children with varying academic abilities, thus creating a school that reflects the 'real world.'

North Light School provides a meeting ground for children and adults to work out social challenges, and to prepare them for the differences among individuals, families and communities. Although it has been difficult at times, the Northern Light School is accomplishing its goal. Administrators see the looks of empathy and camaraderie when children from different backgrounds share concerns, achievements and dreams with their school family. They see children respecting and learning from each other on a daily basis, knowing that other children and faculty encourage and challenge them each step of the way. Northern Light School is preparing children to be intelligent, strong, caring, sensitive human beings and leaders of the future.
